The doctor is in.
And he’s doing a tight twenty about it. The story of Kojo Sarfo: ESL kid, psych nurse, late ADHD diagnosis, and the comic 7 million people send to their group chats.
The short version
Where my ADHD people at?
That’s how Kojo starts a show. He asks for the ADHD people, then the autistic people, and then he raises his own hand. It’s the whole idea of Dr. Kojo in one move: he’s the doctor, and he struggles with the same things you do.
Before the tour, before the 2 billion views, he was a kid in an ESL program working twice as hard to be an average student. He kept going anyway. Nursing school, then a doctorate in psychiatric nursing practice at Augusta University, then years of work in psychiatric hospitals.
Somewhere in grad school he found out he’d had ADHD the whole time. A lot of things suddenly made sense. He started talking about it online in 2019, people recognized themselves, and the videos took off. These days he lives in Los Angeles and headlines comedy clubs across the country.

How he got here
The long way around.
From a classroom where English was the second language to a stage where ADHD is the first.
- ESL kid
The son of Ghanaian immigrants, he started school in an ESL program and bonded with the other students there. That’s where his interest in mental health began.
- Nurse, then doctor
He began his career as a nurse and went on to earn his Doctor of Nursing Practice at Augusta University, where he later taught as adjunct faculty in the College of Nursing.
- Psychiatric hospitals
Years of work in inpatient psychiatry, including forensic psychiatry and work with kids with neurodevelopmental differences.
- The diagnosis
Undiagnosed ADHD until his mid-20s, in grad school. Hard mode explained.
- 2019: the videos
Sketches, raps and short explainers about mental health on TikTok. Millions of people saw themselves in them.
- Hollywood
He moved to Los Angeles to create full time. Netflix, TODAY, ABC7, the Academy’s mental health panel for the 95th Oscars and a White House invitation followed.
- Now: the tour
The Big Neurodivergent Comedy World Tour, headlining comedy clubs from coast to coast.
